Specimen Recommendations

• There is diurnal variation of P1NP levels, with the values being higher at night.
• When serial measurements of P1NP are performed, specimens should be collected at the same time of the day.
• Fasting versus fed state may also cause variation in results. Therefore fasting sample is recommended.
• P1NP is metabolized in the liver. In individuals with severe liver disease, clearance from the circulation might be affected resulting in elevated P1NP levels.

Collection Instructions:

• Fasting specimen is preferred, but not required.
• After collection, gently invert gold tube 8 - 10 times to mix clot activator with blood. 
• Specimen should be processed immediately - see processing instructions

Processing Instructions:

• Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes in a vertical position and centrifuge promptly. 
• Within 1 hour aliquot serum into a plastic transport tube and freeze immediately.
