- Evaluating individuals with signs and symptoms associated with a variety of causes of vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency

Specimen Collection: Blood
Container(s): Red top (no additive) or Gold Top (Serum Separator-SST Gel)
- Preferred Volume to Collect: 6.0 mL
- Minimum Volume to Collect: 1.0 mL
- Neonate Volume to Collect: 1.0 mL
- Capillary collect ok? Yes
- Microtainer acceptable? Yes
Collection Instructions:
- Cannot be shared or combined with any other lab test outside of the department.
- After collection, gently invert tube 8-10 times.
- Red top is preferred tube.
- Specimen should be processed within 2 hours – See Processing Instructions below.
