Specimen Requirements

Specimen Collection Criteria

 

  • Collect: Two Lavender-top EDTA tubes OR one Pink-top tubes OR one Yellow-top ACD tubes.
  • Invert several times to mix well.

 

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

 

  • Do not refrigerate or freeze specimen. Maintain whole blood at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F) prior to transport.
  • Transport to the Laboratory within 72 hours of collection.

 

Preparation for Courier Transport

 

  • Transport: Whole blood at room temperature (20-25°C or 68-77°F).

 

Rejection Criteria

 

  • Unlabeled specimens.
  • Specimens drawn in clot, SST, or Sodium Heparin tubes. 

 

In-Lab Processing

 

  • Maintain specimen at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F) until testing.
