Clinical Information
Includes tests for two HIV infection markers, HIV-1 p24 antigen and HIV 1/2 antibody. HIV-1 p24 antigen is an earlier marker of HIV infection which may become positive before detectable HIV antibody appears.
Specimens with positive results for HIV-1 p24 antigen and/or HIV 1/2 antibody will be further evaluated with HIV 1/HIV 2 Ab Ag Diagnostic (Roche).

Collection Instructions:
- Specimens from other sources are not acceptable.
- Gold tube: Gently invert 5 times to mix clot activator with blood.
- Specimen should be processed within 2 hours – See Processing Instructions.

- Processing Instructions:
- Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes in a vertical position and centrifuge within 2 hours.
- Frozen specimen can the thawed no more than 3 times.
- All frozen specimens must be centrifuged at 10,000g for 5 min at room temperature.
- Carefully remove the 50 μL test sample from the supernatant. If a lipid layer is formed on the surface of the liquid, ensure that the sample is taken from the clear liquid below that layer.
