Collection Instructions

Specimen Type: Urine
Container/Tube: Sterile Container, Urine Cup, Urine Yellow Tube

Minimum Volume to collect: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:

  • First voided urine with or without prostatic massage
  • Urine specimens should be collected in a clean-catch urine collection container and transferred to a yellow top urine BD vacutainer tube for transport to the laboratory.
  • Hold all specimens at room temperature (ambient).
  • DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
  • Must be to testing department within 2 hours

  • Urine collected in a gray top tube w/boric acid is an unacceptable specimen.
  • Specimens > 2 hours old
  • Unlabeled/Mislabeled
