Epic Code LAB1231917 Apixaban Level

Important Note

Caution: This assay is not indicted for monitoring low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) or unfractionated heparin (UFH) concentrations. The presence of UFH and LMWH will cause the apixaban anti Xa level to be falsely elevated.

Test Name Alias

Apixaban, anti Xa, Eliquis, Direct oral anticoagulant, DOAC | 1230103060

Interface Order Alias

1231917

Clinical Information

Apixaban is a direct oral anticoagulant that inhibits factor Xa. The test is performed on plasma from patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy with apixaban in situations where quantification of apixaban levels may be indicated: Patients with bleeding or risk for bleeding, patients with conditions known to affect pharmacokinetics (e.g. deteriorating renal function, extremes of body weight, treatment with other drugs known to affect pharmacokinetics of apixaban).

Ordering Instructions

Specimen should be collected 3 to 4 hours (peak) after dose or just prior (trough) to the next dose for apixaban concentrations.
