Epic Code LAB1231939 Lipoprotein Fractionation, NMR

Important Note

Fast 12 hours prior to specimen collection.

Test Name Alias

LAB1230522 | Quest: 37847 |  LIPOPROTEIN | NMR Lipo Profile, Nuclear Magnet Resonance Lipoprotein Profile, Serum

Interface Order Alias

1231939

Clinical Information

Lipoprotein Fractionation, NMR – The Lipoprotein Fractionation, NMR test is used to help assess the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with intermediate or high risk based on traditional or emerging risk factors, and to assess therapeutic response in patients undergoing lipid-lowering therapy.

Testing Includes

  • LDL P, Small LDL P, LDL Size
  • HDL P, Large HDL P, HDL Size
  • Large VLDL P, VLDL Size

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: Two plain Red-top tubes.

Gently invert draw tube 5X (DO NOT SHAKE).

Serum specimens drawn in any other gel barrier collection tube will be rejected, due to interfering substances that make them unacceptable for NMR analysis.

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot for 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells within 8 hours of collection. Transfer serum to a plastic transport tube and refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46°F).

In-Lab Processing

Let specimen clot for 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells within 8 hours of collection. Transfer serum to a plastic transport tube and refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46°F).

Specimen Transport Temperature

Transport: 2.0 mL serum, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Minimum 1.0 mL)

Rejection Criteria

  • Serum Separator (SST) tubes.
  • Gross hemolysis
  • Gross lipemia
  • Specimens received on dry ice
  • Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

Specimen Stability

Specimen Stability for Testing:
Room Temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F): Unacceptable
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 7  days
