Clinical Information

Leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormone that is essential for normal body weight regulation. Leptin production is under neuroendocrine control so that serum concentrations vary directly with the amount of triglycerides stored in adipose tissue depots.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect (preferred specimen): One Gold-top SST tube..

Also acceptable: One plain Red-top tube

 

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells. Transfer serum to plastic transport tube and refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46) prior to transport.

Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells. Transfer serum to plastic transport tube and refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46) prior to transport.

Specimen Transport Temperature

Transport: 1.0 mL serum, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46) (Minimum: 0.2 mL)

  • Gross hemolysis
  • Hypericteric specimens
  • Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.
