Collection Instructions
Before draw:
- Patient must not consume any alcohol or ingest vitamin supplements for 24 hours before the specimen is drawn and must be fasting (12-14 hours).
- If Vitamin A and Vitamin E are ordered together, only one tube is required.
Specimen Collection: Blood
Container(s): Red top (no additive) only.
Preferred Volume to Collect: 6.0 mL
Minimum Volume to Collect: 2.0 mL
Neonate Volume to Collect: 2.0 mL

Collection Instructions:
- Gently invert tube(s) 8 – 10 times after collection.
- Protect from light
- Wrap tube lightly in paper towel or tinfoil
- Plastic amber pour off tubes are acceptable to protect from light
- Specimen should be processed within 30 minutes – See Processing Instructions
