Specimen collection: Whole blood

 

Container: Heparinized syringe**

Minimum volume: 0.5 mL in a 1 mL syringe, 0.8 mL in a 3 mL syringe

 

Container: Capillary tube

Minimum volume: 175 uL (full capillary tube)

 

Zeeland Only Container: 4 mL Dark Green Lithium Heparin Tube

Minimum volume: 1.0 mL

 

Collection Instructions:

  • **Capped heparinized syringe must be used if pseudo Hyperkalemia is suspected
  • Whole Blood must be run within 30 minutes of collection
  • Capillary specimens should be limited to pediatric patients and must be hand delivered.
