Specimen Type: Parasite

Container/Tube: SAF Container (clear liquid) of the stool specimen collection kit, or sterile urine cup (for worms)

Collection Instructions:

  • Parasite in preservative or sterile container

Specimen Transport Temperature (off-site collection): Ambient

Rejection Criteria

  • Stool specimens will be rejected. 
  • Stool submitted for parasite analysis should be ordered as Giardia/Cryptosporidium [LAB258] or Ova and Parasite [LAB9550].

Specimen Stability

Ambient:

  • Sterile Container: Send to the laboratory as soon as possible.
  • Fixative Container: Indefinitely

Laboratory Retention: 3 days

Test Frequency

Available Monday-Friday, TAT 2 days.
