Submit only one of the following specimens:

Preferred Specimen Type: Bronchoalveolar Lavage

Container/Tube: Sterile container

Preferred Volume to Collect: 10.0 mL

Minimum Volume to Collect: 5.0 mL

Specimen Transport Temperature: Ambient

 

Acceptable Specimen Type: Protected specimen brush in a sterile container

Specimen Stability

Ambient: Deliver to lab as soon as possible

  • CHS: Specimen may be compromised do to greater than 8 delay between specimen collection and arrival in laboratory.

Refrigerate: 24 hours

  • CHS: DO NOT REFRIGERATE (cold kills Neisseria and Haemophilus).

Laboratory Retention: 3 days

Test Frequency

Available daily, TAT 2-3 days.
