Specimen Collection: Urine, 24 hour collection

 

Container(s): Plastic 24-hour urine jug

Preferred Volume to Collect: entire collection

Minimum Volume to Collect: 25.0 mL

Neonate Volume to Collect: 25.0 mL

 

Collection Instructions:

  • No additive.
  • Refrigerate specimen during collection.
  • Starting and ending times of collection are required.
  • Keep container upright at all times and check that lid is fastened evenly and securely.

Rejection Criteria

Leaky specimen container.
Specimen not refrigerated during collection.
Specimen missing collection times.

Specimen Stability

Refrigerate: 7 days

Laboratory Retention: 72 hours

Reflex Information

Reflex approved by MEC

Pathologist will review urine electrophoresis and if necessary, a urine immunofixation will be performed at an additional charge.

Test Frequency

Available Monday – Friday, TAT up to 5 business days depending on if the specimen needs additional testing.

Reference Range

Normal protein electrophoresis pattern. No monoclonal bands or other abnormalities noted.
