Container(s): 3.0 mL Lavender Top EDTA or 6.0 mL Pink Top EDTA

Preferred Volume to Collect: 3.0 mL

Minimum Volume to Collect: 3.0 mL

Neonate Volume to Collect: 3.0 mL

Capillary collect ok: No

Microtainer acceptable: No

 

Collection Instructions:

  • Protect from light after collecting
    • Wrap in paper towel or tinfoil
  • Keep specimen on wet ice until processed.
  • Specimen should be processed immediately (within 1 hour) – See Processing Instructions.

 

PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS (LAB OR OUTPATIENT/OFF-SITE COLLECTION)

 

  • Processed Specimen: Plasma preferred, frozen serum accepted
    • Volume: 1 mL plasma or serum
    • Minimum volume: 0.5 mL plasma or serum
    • Centrifuge/Spin: Yes - within 1 hour of collection
    • Aliquot: Yes
    • Processing Instructions:
      • Immediately separate plasma or serum from the cells into an amber transport tube or foil wrap to protect from light.
      • Freeze.
      • Do not thaw. .
  • Transport: 1.0 mL plasma in amber transport tube, frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below) (Minimum: 0.5mL)
