Submit only one of the following specimens: (Inpatient, Outpatient or CRITCARE/Respiratory)

 

 

CRITCARE IONIZED CALCIUM [LAB1230302] to Respiratory

Specimen Type: Whole Blood

Container/Tube: Heparinized blood gas syringe or Capillary Gas Tube or 4.0 mL Green Top Lithium Heparin tube

Volume: 4.0 mL/Full Tube

Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL

Collection Instructions:

  • Do not collect in microtainer.
  • Do not centrifuge.
  • Do not expose to air.
  • Do not store on ice.
  • Whole blood must be run within 30 minutes of collection.
  • Capillary collect acceptable for capillary gas tube
  • Call Respiratory Satellite Lab and tube to Respiratory

Inpatient to Laboratory

Specimen Type: Whole Blood

Container/Tube: 4.0 mL Green Top (lithium heparin)

Volume: 4.0 mL/Full Tube

Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL

Collection Instructions:

  • Do not collect in microtainer.
  • Do not centrifuge.
  • Do not expose to air.
  • Do not store on ice.
  • Cannot be shared or combined with any other lab test.
  • Whole blood must be run within 30 minutes of collection.
  • Specimen to remain ambient
  • Specimen may be rejected if not processed within 30 minutes of collection


 

Outpatient to Laboratory

Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Gold top (Serum Separator-SST Gel)
Volume: 5 mL
Minimum volume: 2.0 mL SERUM

Pediatric volume: 2.0 mL SERUM

Capillary Collect Acceptable? No

Collection Instructions: 

  • The tube must be centrifuged within 2 hours after collection.
  • Do not collect in microtainer.
  • Do not expose to air.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Cannot be shared or combined with any other lab test.
  • Specimen to be refrigerated after centrifuged.
