Important Note

  • Only available to order by Infectious Disease.
  • Preferred collection containers are available in inpatient phlebotomy at Butterworth and Blodget. If at a regional facility- please contact Referrals (616.267.2753) to request delivery of the tube.
    • Alternatively, a lavender tube may be collected for pediatric or difficult draws.
  • Please transport all specimens to Corewell Health Reference Laboratory West, Grand Rapids, after collection and processing.
  • Order as Reference Miscellaneous #LAB848; indicate complete test name when ordering.
Infectious

Processing Instructions (Laboratory, Outpatient or Off-site collection)

Preferred method.

  • Collect 5mL in special Karius tube (do not open)
    • Centrifuge within 6 hours at 3000 RPM for 10 minutes.

 

Alternative method (pediatric/difficult draw)

  • Collect 1-3 mL in EDTA tube
  • DELIVER TO CHRLW WITHIN 5 HOURS OF COLLECTION
    • Centrifuge within 6 hours at 3500 RPM for 10 minutes.
      • Hematology to pour over into sterile conical pour over container.

Specimen Stability

Stable 3 days ambient. Freeze after 72 hours.
