Ordering Instructions
Hepatitis C Virus RNA Quantitation by RT-PCR testing (test code #LAB8870) must be ordered before Hepatitis C Genotyping will be performed. HCV Genotype testing is intended to be used as a follow-up procedure for patients who have been identified with an active HCV infection, with an HCV viral load adequate for HCV Genotyping (over 500 IU/mL).
If one or both of the following tests are to be ordered, only one EDTA tube (minimum volume 6 mL) or one Gold Top SST tube (minimum volume 5 mL) needs to be collected:
Hepatitis C Virus RNA Quantitation by RT-PCR
Hepatitis C Genotype with Amplification
In addition, positive HCV specimens will be stored by the laboratory for 1 month, so additional follow-up testing can be added to the original order by FAXing the completed “Additional/Add-on Laboratory Request” form to Spectrum Health Lab Central at 616-267-2751.
